TraceID & the ESPR Digital Product Passport Mandate

Understand how TraceID operationalizes Ecodesign requirements from data carriers to impact metrics.

Compliance Digital Product Passport

The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) makes the digital product passport (DPP) a prerequisite for market access in the EU. It demands verifiable identity, machine-readable data, and ongoing lifecycle transparency for every regulated product category. TraceID was built to meet those expectations without forcing you to rebuild the rest of your tech stack.

Secure identifiers for every product granularity

ESPR requires an on-product data carrier that resolves to a unique product identifier. TraceID provisions encrypted QR, NFC, or barcode tags that bind the passport to a model, batch, or serialised item. Each scan validates the carrier’s authenticity, looks up the correct data slice, and enforces geofenced or role-based access policies.

Standards-first data modelling

The DPP must be machine-readable, searchable, and built on interoperable standards. Our passport core maps your bill of materials, substances of concern, and environmental metrics to GS1 Digital Link, EPCIS events, and open JSON schemas. That makes it simple to exchange information with supply chain partners or authorities without custom middleware.

Compliance evidence on-demand

The regulation expects the passport to include declarations of conformity, notified-body credentials, and supporting technical documentation. TraceID syncs those records from PLM or QMS sources, versions every upload, and publishes the appropriate excerpts to public or restricted stakeholders automatically.

A lifecycle view, not a static PDF

ESPR keeps the passport alive for the entire product lifecycle. We orchestrate durability, repair, upgrade, and end-of-life instructions along with recycling or take-back steps. When anything changes—such as a supplier update or a new regulation—TraceID propagates revisions to every affected passport and logs the update for auditability.

With TraceID, the DPP becomes a living service that satisfies regulators, informs partners, and reassures customers in a single scan. Book a walkthrough and see how quickly you can move from static documentation to a trusted digital record for every product you ship.
